At UKROEd, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles are embedded in the way we deliver our public service mission. As an organisation dedicated to improving road safety and reducing risk through education, we recognise that responsible environmental stewardship, social accountability and strong governance are fundamental to maintaining the trust of police forces, partners, employees and the communities we serve.
We are committed to embedding ESG throughout our organisation, strengthening the way we operate, managing long-term organisational risks and creating sustainable value for our stakeholders. This statement reflects our current approach to ESG and our commitment to continually improving our performance as our organisation, stakeholder expectations and best practice continue to evolve.
Environmental Responsibility
We recognise our responsibility to minimise our environmental impact and are committed to taking practical, proportionate steps to reduce it through the way we operate and the decisions we make. We do this by
- Reducing our environmental impact through efficient operations, minimising unnecessary travel and encouraging sustainable ways of working.
- Promoting sustainable transport choices through our programmes and internal working practices where appropriate.
- Working with our building management to maximise recycling and resource efficiency, benefiting from sustainable building features including managed waste segregation, PIR-controlled lighting and water-saving systems.
- Making responsible procurement decisions and undertaking proportionate due diligence to work with suppliers who demonstrate environmental, ethical and responsible business practices.
Social Accountability
People are at the heart of what we do. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive working environment for our employees while delivering a positive social impact through our mission to improve road safety and reduce risk through education. We recognise that social responsibility extends beyond our organisation to the communities, partners and stakeholders we serve. We achieve this by :
- Producing an annual Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) report to monitor progress, support continual improvement and provide assurance to the Board.
- Delivering our People Plan through initiatives that promote employee wellbeing, inclusion, engagement and professional development, including flexible and hybrid working, an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), Mental Health First Aiders, occupational health support and regular staff engagement.
- Maintaining robust safeguarding and modern slavery arrangements, supported by mandatory training for all employees.
- Undertaking proportionate due diligence to work with partners and suppliers who share our commitment to ethical, responsible and sustainable business practices.
- Supporting the development of future talent through apprenticeships, learning and professional development opportunities.
- Creating positive social value by delivering high-quality road safety education that improves driver behaviour, reduces road risk and contributes to safer communities.
Strong Governance
Strong governance underpins everything we do. We are committed to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency and accountability, ensuring that ESG principles are embedded in our decision-making and organisational management. We do this by:
- Providing Executive Leadership Team oversight of our ESG priorities and reviewing this statement annually to support continual improvement.
- Maintaining robust internal controls and ensuring compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory and corporate governance requirements.
- Embedding ethical decision-making, proportionate risk management and responsible business practices throughout the organisation.
- Reporting regularly to the Board on key ESG-related matters, including Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
- Undertaking proportionate due diligence across our supplier base to support ethical procurement and responsible supply chain management.
- Maintaining high standards of information security, data protection and privacy across our operations.
We recognise that ESG is a journey of continuous improvement. UKROEd is committed to regularly reviewing and strengthening our environmental, social and governance practices, setting proportionate objectives and aligning our approach with evolving best practice and the expectations of our stakeholders.
Our mission—to improve road safety and reduce risk through education—remains central to our ESG commitment, reflecting our determination to create lasting positive impact for our people, partners, communities and the wider society we serve.
