Warwickshire Police shares Op Snap footage
As part of the ongoing national two-wheels operation, Warwickshire Police is sharing footage that members of the public have submitted via Operation Snap. The operation, co-ordinated by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), took place last month. Its aim was to improve safety for those travelling to two wheels: cyclists and motorcyclists.
The footage released by Warwickshire Police includes that of a motorcyclist, who received three points and a fine for careless driving after passing a cyclist at 120mph. The footage also shows a driver, who had to do a re-training course after passing two separate cyclists too close at speed near Wootton Wawen.
Drivers should allow 1.5m when passing cyclists and give even more space at higher speeds.
A third clip shows a young driver, who the partnership says was lucky to be offered a driver retraining course, after failing to look properly at a junction and narrowly missing a cyclist. The clips represent a small selection of 634 submissions the force has received so far this year from cyclists. Analysis shows most reports are of drivers passing riders too closely.
