King’s Birthday Honours for road safety stalwarts

Road Safety Foundation CEO Dr Suzy Charman

Dr Suzy Charman, executive director of the Road Safety Foundation, has been recognised with an OBE in The King’s 2026 Birthday Honours List, for her services to road safety.

Dr Charman is a leading expert on the Safe System, with more than 20 years’ experience.

In her role at the Road Safety Foundation (RSF), Dr Charman leads the United Kingdom Road Assessment Programme and is a recognised thought-leader on speed management and infrastructure safety.

Prior to joining RSF, she served as head of international road safety at TRL and before that played a pivotal role in the establishment of the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP).

Meanwhile, Emily Cherry, chief executive of The Bikeability Trust, has been awarded an MBE for services to active travel for young people.

Emily joined The Bikeability Trust in 2020 and has spent more than 25 years’ in the children’s sector, largely at the NSPCC, but also at the Children’s Society and Barnardo’s.

She has experience of running safeguarding services, policy, comms and is a well-known media voice on children, especially in the field of online safety.
